Our Books:» Cuneiform Tablet to 16th Century » Renaissance of Calligraphy, 1906-1959 |
Large quarto. (4); 73 pp. Limited to 100 handbound copies signed by Waters and by the binder, Peter Waters. A facsimile of Waters' celebrated 1978 manuscript version of this play. Bound-in is a sample of her original calligraphy, four lines long, done for this edition, but with the same materials as the original.
The bright colors and exquisite illumination that Waters created in this manuscript are finely represented.
Handsomely bound by Peter Waters after the original in leather-backed linen with an embossed lettering panel. In a matching dropback box. Sheila Waters, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, is known internationally for her work in the lettering arts. Born in England, she studied at the Royal College of Arts, moving to the United States in 1971. A member of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators, her work is owned by royalty, museums, libraries, institutions and private collections. Waters' name is always associated with any major publication of modern calligraphic literature. Peter Waters, a leading name in British and American bookbinding, is the Director of the Preservation Office at the Library of Congress. Formerly a partner of bookbinder Roger Powell, he worked with Powell on the restoration and re-binding of the Book of Kells. (21875) $950.00 |
