Illustrated with thirty tipped-in color plates protected by tissue guards and numerous black & white head- and tail-pieces, all designed by Edmund Dulac to have the feel of 18th-century France, when the fairy tales were "at the acme of [their] vogue]" (p. [xi]). Very good in publisher's gilt-decorated red cloth to a design by Dulac, with some wear to extremities, slight bowing and soiling to boards, small amount of foxing to text block edges and endpapers, and small split in gutter of front endpaper.
