Color lithograph of a young woman.
Color lithograph measuring 12 by 9 1/2 inches by Marie Laurencin, a contemporary of Picasso and Braque. Although she was one of a few women artists of the time to experiment with Cubist ideas, her work does not reach the height of abstraction attained by Picasso. Instead, her focus is on the feminine: the subjects of her work are most often young women depicted in soft, pastel colors. The femininity of her work is often viewed as a response to Cubism's masculine modernism. This print depicts a woman with a tender, tranquil expression, wearing an elaborate bow in her hair. Matted, in an antique-style frame with curls of gilt decoration from the House of Heydenryk in New York. The whole measures 18 3/4 by 16 1/8 inches. Some very slight yellowing to edges of paper; else extremely fine. Item #22927
