The World of William Clissold. A Novel at a New Angle.

London: Ernest Benn Ltd., 1926. Three octavo volumes. 885pp., paginated continuously. One of 198 sets printed as the deluxe of the first edition. Signed by Wells at the first volume, which was published to coincide with Wells' sixtieth birthday. Over the course of six books, the reader experiences Clissold's life, and more frequently his thoughts and ideas, through Clissold's own perspective. Clissold's thought-life takes up most of the novel, and is occasionally brought to bear on figures like Carl Jung and Karl Marx, as well as historic events like World War One. Each volume bound in quarter-vellum with polished green cloth over boards, and gilt work to spine and upper cover. All covers somewhat rubbed, spine of second volume minorly soiled. Very good. T.e.g. with front of giltwork blackened on all volumes. Item #29088
