(Rogers, Bruce)

Friar Jerome's Beautiful Book.

Hadaway, W. S. (illus.)

Cambridge, MA: Riverside Press, 1896. Small octavo. (16)ff. frenchfold. Exquisitely decorated in black and red, with double-page spreads for the first and last pages of text. The rest of the text is ornamented with two-line initials in red, rubrication, and black bannered borders. Perhaps one of Bruce Rogers' first designs for the Riverside Press after his arrival in 1895. Bound in brown paper embossed in darker brown with a portrait of the friar. Design is repeated on the dust wrapper, which is particularly scarce. General minor edgewear to book, with four ribbons intact. Dust wrapper has a repair to upper right corner and few chips, but the clever holes at the edges for the ribbons are all square. Near fine. Item #29256
