Handmade miniature letters to Melissa Crane, sent by "Sparrow Post"

Tudor, Tasha (illus.)

(Marlboro, VT: Tasha Tudor, n.d.). Five handmade miniature letters sent to Melissa Crane, a doll under the care of T. L. McCready of New Hampshire. Melissa was designed as the daughter of the Shakespeare family, who went on to marry Thaddeus Crane. Their wedding was covered in an extensive article in Life magazine. One of the missives is sent by Melissa's parents, while another is from Thaddeus. Such affection is only amplified by the various illustrations and ornamentations present; one letter has a hand-decorated letterhead, "Hitty," one is heart-shaped with a fruit design, another celebrates the holidays with a hand-painted sprig of holly, and three of the five retain their envelopes, which feature wax seals and one bears a small tuft of a wing. The rear of the holiday card cites Tudor's Jenny Wren Press. A page is missing from the "Hitty" letter, else altogether a fine compendium. (Letters measure approx. 1 1/2 by 1 in). Item #30117
