Untitled / 1975.
Paris: Fernand Mourlot, (1975). Elephant folio. (38)ff. One of 150 copies. Contains ten lithographs measuring 28 1/2 by 20 3/4 inches, each signed by the artist, Richard Lindner, and numbered and counter-initialed by Fernand Mourlot, the printer/publisher who produced the lithographs. In his introduction, Ionesco describes Lindner as "one of the great contemporary masters. His work lies within the realm of caricature, painting, and theater. It is interpretation of reality, but reality is not realistic." Mourlot, who worked with all the great artists of the twentieth century, writes that Lindner created ten original gouaches and watercolors for this series, supervised the transfer to the stones, corrected the colors, retouched the plates, and oversaw the printing with such a perfectionist's eye that "only Marc Chagall forced us to run the plates so many times through the presses." Some offsetting from plates, else a fine copy, loose as issued, in a printed quarter-vellum clamshell box. Item #15455
