L'Opera Tipografica Di Alberto Tallone.

(N.p. Stamperia Di Alberto Tallone, 1975). Quarto. Lxxxvii, 251pp. One of 470 copies. A bibliography of works by the Italian printer Alberto Tallone with many sample title pages. Prefaced with an introduction and a biographical essay. At a young age, Tallone became an apprentice in the printing house of Maurice Darantière at Chatenay Malabry near Paris, one of the most famous printing houses in Europe. Tallone went on to become a very successful printer and typographer in his own right, specializing in classical works like Shakespeare and Dante. Bound in limp printed paper wrappers with original glassine. Housed in a brown cloth enclosure with endpapers embossed with a basketweave pattern, and a matching slipcase. Spine of enclosure is slightly bumped, and glassine shows some wear at the bottom of the spine, else extremely fine, featuring the bookplate of Robert Wayne Stilwell. Laid in is a cleverly-designed leaf of typographic examples printed in red and black that discusses how knowledge of classical typography is essential to the progress of printing as an art.
