Nineteenth-century German Keepsake Box.

(Germany: c. 1856). Charming keepsake box, holding 14 items: three handwritten notes dated 1856 and 1858, eight additional blank sheets of note paper, a colorful floral print, a religious print of an angel guiding a child by the hand, and an image on paper over cardboard of a woman with a book gazing at the landscape out of a window. The latter two prints are captioned in German. The notes are in three different hands and were presumably gathered by the box's owner from friends and family, with more planned, if the blank sheets are any indication. Housed in a highly decorated embossed paper box bordered with an gold design. The top cover is decorated with a spray of embossed flowers, hand-painted in pink, blue, purple, and gold. This is bordered with rich spirals of gold and blue flowers. Lifting the lid reveals a mirror on the back. One can imagine the owner of this elaborately decorated box carefully stowing away items dear to her heart. (6 by 4; 200x100mm). Item #22835
