London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner, 1895-1897. Twelve parts in three quarto volumes. viii, 512pp., + 23 plates; viii, 503pp., + 21 plates; viii, 511pp., + 22 plates. One of 850 copies. A complete set of this important periodical, beautifully printed and illustrated throughout. The journal's intention was such that "its articles should be by writers of authority, and that it should be produced with all possible beauty of form," according to the Preface. A periodical in twelve parts, containing essays from such notable figures as William Morris, Octave Uzanne, and Alfred Pollard. Subjects range from Japanese illustrated books to "The Grotesque and the Humourous in Illuminations of the Middle Ages." Each volume has original blue wrappers for each part and advertisements bound in after the text. In brown half morocco over brown cloth, gilt-titled to spine. Morocco rubbed, some wear to extremities, else near fine. Bookplates of Samuel E. Thorne and William John Mercer, and with an invoice from Zaehnsdorf billed to Mercer bound in. T.e.g. Item #23534
