The Butterfly's Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast. Together with: Butterflies in Flight woodblock.

Chamberlain, Sarah (illus.)

Watertown, MA: Anne and David Bromer, 1977. (24)pp., frenchfold. From a deluxe edition of twenty-five copies, signed by the illustrator, Sarah Chamberlain, this is the publisher's copy. With an extra suite of ten artist's proofs of wood engravings, each signed by Chamberlain, as well as an original woodblock by Chamberlain showing a group of butterflies in flight—the first of the illustrations from the book. Chamberlain's engraved blocks never come on the market, and the present example has been in Anne Bromer's possession for many years. The text of the book is the first English poem for children intended for sheer amusement. This was Chamberlain’s first miniature book commission and the first miniature book published by the Bromers. In a deluxe binding of full green morocco by Gray Parrot, with marbled endpapers and a cleverly designed pocket inside the rear cover to hold the extra prints. Spine slightly sunned, else a fine copy of this scarce book. Accompanied by a letterpress broadside, published in an edition of 100 copies, printed for friends of the Chamberlain Press and Bromer Booksellers in celebration of the book's publication, as well as a smaller sheet with the book's title in red. (Bromer, pp. 11-16). (2 3/8 by 1 15/16; 60x50mm). Item #25883
