Mitsumata Japan Kunst Karton Römerturm Sortiment Nr. 217.

Leipzig: Poensgen & Heyer, Feinpapier, (c. 1900). Quarto. (28)pp. Catalogue from Poensgen & Heyer, a fine paper company, with seven advertisements for German companies printed in brilliant color, gold, and silver on heavy Mitsumata paper. The paper is made from the short fibers of the Mitsumata bush, and therefore has a softer finish than other paper made from longer fibers. Each of the seven paper samples is four pages: three blanks, and one with the printed advertisement. The companies represented are Johann-Maria-Farina, Der Rhein und seine Burgen, Festellan, Kinder Spielwaren Haus Nürnberg, Ibach, Dahs Reuter & Co, and Bestecke. A perforated price sheet for the paper is tipped into the inside front cover. Founded in Cologne in 1885, Poensgen & Heyer established itself as a premium paper supplier and operated the historic papermill at Kieppemühle. In wrappers with a color image of two geishas. "Mitsumata" is written vertically on the front cover in a font designed to look like Japanese kanji. Shelf label pasted in lower left corner of wrapper. Minor wear and creasing to decorated paper wrappers, with a small closed tear to head of spine. Overall, a nearly fine copy of an uncommon paper catalogue. Item #27006
