The Ukiyoye Primitives.

Tokyo: privately published, 1933. Quarto. XIII, 122pp. + 93 plates, four of which are in color. Of a total edition of 1000, this is one of 500 copies of the English edition sold in Europe and America, numbered and signed by the author. With a fold-out frontispiece wood engraving, "Woman fingering a ground-cherry" by Kiyonobu the First, dating from about 1708. An extensively-illustration reference for the notable artists and styles of the Primitive period of Japanese prints, covering the years1650-1765. Bound in wrappers in the Japanese style, side-sewn with white silk cord with an extra decorative pattern at the corners. Housed in a blue cloth wrap-around box with ivory clasps. One bent corner, and box showing wear and sunned spine, else fine. Item #27074
