Program from Max Reinhardt's Production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream"

(NY): Hollywood Theater, (1935). Quarto. (2)ff. A program from a screening of Max Reinhardt's 1935 film production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," held at the Hollywood Theater in New York City. The movie was based on Reinhardt's stage production of the previous year and featured the music of Felix Mendelssohn backing Shakespeare's story. The film starred Ian Hunter, James Cagney, Mickey Rooney, Dick Powell, and Olivia de Havilland in her debut role. The playbill contains information about all aspects of the production, beautifully printed on laid paper with decorations in brown. An ink notation on the front reads "Estelle Close and I — Oct. 28th 1935," presumably marking the occasion at which the program was received. A magazine clipping is laid in and shows an image of James Cagney in his role as Bottom, along with Dewey Robinson as Snug and another character. A bit of wrinkling to paper and minute closed tear to front fore-edge, else near fine. Item #27272
