Mährchenspiel Schneewittchen.

Cöster, Mathilde (illus.)

Mainz: Jos. Scholz, (c. 1890). Four stand-up scenes with forty-five die-cut paper figures, which can be used to stage the fairy tale of Snow White. The pieces include thirteen two-sided figures for our major players, including Snow White, the Seven Dwarves, Prince Charming, and the Evil Queen; six additional one-sided figures for minor characters; five hats and hairpieces; three costumes; and eighteen smaller animals and objects. Each of the four scenes is crafted from multiple layers of paper, which create convenient slots for positioning characters. The scenes can be propped up using the ribbon-reinforced easel stands on the backs. A single-page sheet suggests twelve example scenes; for easy legibility, the die-cut pieces are shown in red and the background in black. A four-page text insert in German offers an introduction and written instructions. Housed in a box with a pictorial chromolithographed label to the top and gilt edge decorations. Inside the bottom of the box is what looks like a pair of wooden doors made of paper that are hinged and open to reveal a space for storing the figures when they are not in use. The inside of the box top is stamped with the logo of Vetter's Magazin für Jugend-Beschäftigungen. Expected wear to box, some gilt trim loss, prop on the back of one scene loose, else a near fine set. Item #27502
