Windsor-Smith, Barry (illus.)

Boston, MA: Earthlight Gallery, 1980. Poster for the exhibition of paintings and drawings by fantasy artists Barry Windsor-Smith and Robert Gould at the Earthlight Gallery in Boston. The exhibit was held from November 22 through December 31, 1980. The exhibit poster features the illustration "The Head of Perseus" by Windsor-Smith. Barry Windsor-Smith was best known for his comic book art, especially the 1970-1974 run of Conan the Barbarian. However, he left comics at the peak of his popularity in 1974 to explore his own art. Robert Gould is best known for his fantasy book covers and illustration. Gould and Windsor-Smith, along with artist Jeffrey Jones, formed the New Romantic Brotherhood, which promoted New Romanticism—a blend of Pre-Raphaelite and Art Nouveau design with modern sensibilities. Poster is inscribed by Gould to Anne and David Bromer. Some bumping to edges, else near fine. (22 by 35 inches). Item #27531
