A handsome and exhaustive account of the publication of what is considered by many to be D. B. Updike's "magnum opus," together with a vellum leaf from the original edition, which was underwritten by J. P. Morgan, Jr. The leaf, taken from the revision of the Standard Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church in America, contains prayers pertaining to the visitation of the sick. Note from The Typophiles laid in, stamped Sep. 5, 1995. Bound in linen boards with leather spine label, and housed in linen and paper slipcase. Scant marking on slipcase, otherwise fine. Bookplate.
