A Leaf from a Medieval Manuscript Bible. Book of Kings II, Chapters 12-14.

(Paris: c. 1240). Manuscript leaf, on vellum, with text in Latin. The leaf contains 50 lines of double-column text in fine Gothic script. On the recto, it includes a five-line initial in blue and red inks with flourishes radiating along the center margin, while another red and blue initial with equally extensive decoration adorns the verso. Headers and chapter titles also appear in blue and red inks. The leaf shows faint lines, sketched by the scribe to help guide his hand. The leaf's contents discuss repairs to the temple at Jerusalem, the death of the prophet Elisha, and the conflicts between the kingdoms of Israel and Aram. Tipped onto card backing with a blue card mat. Some rubbing to corners of case, else fine. Item #27657
