Love in the Time of War.

Price, Robin (illus.)

Middletown, Connecticut: Robin Price, 2013. Quarto. (32)pp. One of 70 copies, signed by the author. This edition marks the first time Yusef Komunyakaa's sonnet sequence of the same title was published in its entirety. Komunyakaa began writing the poems in 2003, when the United States entered Iraq. The twenty-five poems are letterpress printed in silver ink onto individually painted, hand-dyed silk sheets, rendered to look like the exterior of a grenade. The sheets are sewn in the Japanese fukuro toji (pouch binding) style, creating pockets within the pages into which Price has inserted Moriki paper and printed glassine "to provide rattle & an additional visual layer." Bound in a modified paper-case binding co-designed by Daniel E. Kelm, with aluminum covers etched with a pattern derived from camouflage fabric. Housed in a four-fold paper case with paper spine label. Very fine. Prospectus and pamphlet on the visual backstory of the book's production laid in. Item #27674
