(12)pp. This vibrant children's book, illustrated with twelve full-color, full-page plates, narrates the early years of George Washington's life in verse. His childhood deeds, including learning to ride a horse at age ten, chopping down his father's cherry tree, and setting out as a land surveyor as a teenager, are all presented with accompanying illustrations and two stanzas of poetic lyrics. This is number thirty-seven in Stecher Lithographic Company's series of children's books. Throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Stecher became a major printer of chromolithographic posters, labels, and trade cards, along with artist-drawn holiday postcards. Bound in stiff card wrappers, each with a full-color lithographic illustration. General edgewear, especially along spine, else near fine. Item #27739
