The Atlantic Islands. An Album Containing Fifteen Watercolors and One Pen-and-Ink Wash. Views of a Voyage from Lisbon to Gibraltar Aboard the RMSP "Arcadian"

(N.p.): 1927. Oblong octavo. (16)ff. Fifteen watercolor images and one pen-and-ink wash, pasted in and labelled with white ink. The illustrations provide a visual narrative of the artist's travels from Lisbon to Gibraltar, adopting an impressionist style to portray scenes, such as the Tagus at night, basket sellers in Madeira, and the lighthouse at Cape St. Vincent. The artist paid as much attention to the scenery as he or she did to the vessels in the area; the plethora of rowboats, sailboats, and steamships evoke a world both at play and at work. Bound with cord capped with beaded tassels, in leather over flexible boards. General edgewear and very light offsetting from some illustrations, else a fine collection of original works. Item #28169
