San Francisco: Arion Press, 1983. Octavo. x, 291pp., + (44)ff. One of 400 copies. This edition of Hammet's classic murder mystery, first published in 1938, is illustrated with 46 photographs of Sam Spade's San Francisco. Photographer Edmund Shea searched the photo-archives of the twenties for specific locations. Where none were available he took seven new photographs. The endpapers are street maps. The binding is quarter leather and gray cloth, with a black leather silhouette of the falcon, outlined in silver, applied to both front and back. The silver Art Deco spine lettering is matched on the leather label of the cloth slipcase. Book is fine; slipcase shows some staining and wear to spine label. Prospectus laid in. Item #28333
