The Child's Bible.

NY: Hurst & Company, (c. 1880). 192pp. Twenty-five engravings—one frontispiece and each of the remaining twenty-four introducing a chapter—depicting significant scenes from the Bible. Among them appear Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Pharaoh being swallowed up in the Red Sea, and Peter's denial of Christ. The volume condenses the Bible into a narrative comfortable for young readers, and most of its pages are given to Old Testament tales. Additionally, rather than continue through the entire New Testament, the narrative ends with Paul's letters to the various churches and his protegé, Timothy. Bound in a publisher's binding, in red cloth over boards with blind-stamped device to upper cover and gilt to spine, as well as oddly large margins around text block. Pages somewhat loose in binding, with several instances of splitting. Near fine. (Adomeit A137). (2 1/2 by 2 1/4; 64x55mm). Item #28862
