The Good Wine.
(Thetford, VT): Cricket Press, 1965. Quarto. (12)ff. One of twenty-two copies. Subtitled "The First Miracle, John 2," the book tells the story of the Wedding at Cana. The text is printed in red, and faces the tipped-in illustrations. Heavily influenced by Leonard Baskin's early work, there are nine exquisitely fine wood engravings of animals, birds, and one frog by Gillian Tyler. They are captioned with the names of plants: the cow is "rhubarb," the skunk is "elderflower," the fox is "fox grape." A fine copy, with a hint of toning to spine, bound in burlap-covered boards, with printed label. Prospectus and two letters between Tyler and the collector Charles Rheault, Jr., laid in. Item #29196
