Paris: Chez le Fuel, c. 1820. 24mo. 7ff., including title page, and pages for every month, each decorated with an engraving within a roundel. This is followed by a folded palimpsest of heavy coated ivory-colored paper with the days of the week printed in gold. This appears to have been for recording weekly appointments and other events during the course of a month. The format of this calendar is similar to a copy held at Lilly Library, save for the repositioning of the palimpsest pages. The Lilly copy also contains a folding calendar for 1822, lacking here. However, this example is housed in a Spanish mother-of-pearl and brass filigree binding with raw silk pastedowns and endleaves, with a brass pencil within a spiral fore-edge closure. At the center of the front panel is a brass shield surrounded by a delicate laurel leaf pattern. Above this shield, the word "Recuerdo" is incised in gold, and the whole panel is framed by a gilt palm-leaf border. The lower cover features an inset gilt oval with enamel flowers and a butterfly. An uncommon binding and a handsome example of an early 19th century personal calendar. Item #30103
