[New Life's Songs].

NY: Erewan Tparan, 1934. Small octavo. 59pp. A book of socialist and worker-themed songs, all in Armenian, with musical scores, designed with the Armenian immigrant community in mind. At the time, Armenians in America were largely refugees from the Armenian genocide, and the music's composter, fellow Armenian Grikor Suni, fought for the Armenia Revolutionary Federation (Dashnak) until his flight to Turkey. Suni is considered a founder of modern Armenian music, and though his relationship to the Armenian diasporic community was complicated by his communist beliefs, here he invites unity among his downtrodden countrymen and demands justice for their sufferings as victims of genocide and underpaid laborers. Bound in black wrappers with striking cover design in silver, green, and orange. Fragile edges, with chips to corners, else very good. Item #30194
