From an edition of 100 copies, this is one of twenty-eight copies that includes an opening leaf with one full-page illustration, initials, and border, with plain text on the reverse. The illustration was designed by Edward Burne-Jones and depicts a scene from "The Legend of Good Women" in which Lucrece on the verge of suicide, an act that would incite the Romans to rise against their monarchial rulers and establish a republic. Also features a 19-line opening initial, as well as nine 3-line initials on the recto and verso. Signed by John Windle below the limitation. Fine, in a portfolio of blue-gray printed boards backed in cloth. Item #30403
