Wo? Fünf Blumen-Haiku.

Akten, Hasan (illus.)

Vienna: Offizin am Wolfersberg, 2019. (50)pp. One of ten copies. Thirteen marbled flowers of the Cicekli-ebru style, crafted to pair with Hüpfel's haikus on various flowers, here printed both in their original German and in English translated by Robert Fitzgerald. Every page of the volume is marbled, a stunning array of blue, pink, and orange, over which Akten's flowers bloom organically. A highly decorated and pleasing publication with a gilt and marbled edge, painted vellum binding supports, and flowers on the vellum cover and paper slipcase. This copy comes with a letter signed by Hüpfel, along with an envelope of extra materials: an unused case of marbled paper over boards, a sample of the "translucent vellum (goat)" that serves a dust wrapper for the book, an eight-page gathering of two marbled papers with two flowers, and an unused sheet with a carnation and three pages of printed text, missing from the completed edition. Winner of the Distinguished Book Award of the Miniature Book Society 2020 Miniature Book Competition. Fine. Item #30469
