This is White’s first book for children, which was written “in the hope of amusing a six-year-old niece.” Stuart Little was a bestseller in spite of some unenthusiastic initial reviews. White spent most of his literary career writing for The New Yorker magazine and only began writing for children in middle age, his most famous book being Charlotte’s Web. Some rubbing to corners, near-imperceptible spot of toning to head of text block, else near fine in beige cloth, and with dust wrapper, not price-clipped, and with only a minute chip to upper left corner and minor soiling to rear panel, as usual.
