Tony Sarg's Alphabet.

Sarg, Tony (illus.)

NY: Greenberg Inc., (1926). Octavo. (28)ff. First edition. Each letter of the alphabet, and its accompanying emblematic imagery, is playfully illustrated in blue, magenta, yellow, and black. Most of the letters, in both image and verse, refer to a children's literary tale or rhyme; for example, G is for Gulliver's Travels, Q is for the Queen of Hearts, and Y is for Yankee Doodle. Others cite animals—the elephant or the zebra—and C depicts Charlie Chaplin. The resulting compendium is an insightful, if accidental, view into media popular among children in the 1920s. Bound in illustrated paper over boards, with equally lush endpapers. Corners rubbed, minor loss at head of spine, else nearly fine. With uncommonly found dust wrapper, the design of which matches that of the boards, with few chips to edges not affecting image. Item #30642
