Dauenhauer, though himself not indigneous, was married to Tlingit poet and scholar Nora Marks Dauenhauer, and subsequently became an expert on the Tlingit people of southeastern Alaska. His life's work consisted of translating and preserving the Tlingit language, and advocating for the preservation of the Tlingit culture through awareness and linguistic study. His poetry here addresses the beauty of the Alaskan landscape, and the inextricable bond between it and the native people. Bound in tan wrappers with image of mountains stamped on upper cover. Fine.
