Printing on Vellum.

Islip: Strawberry Press, 1994. Octavo. (19)pp. One of 100 copies. Printed in black and red inks is an Introduction by Paul Nash, a prefatory letter sent by Bowden in 1902 to the then-Printer to the University of Oxford, Horace Hart, and its accompanying memorandum in which Bowden concisely and clearly explicates the requirements for printing on vellum. Bowden became intimately masterful at that practice while working at the Kelmscott Press, of which he was Overseer from 1891 to 1898. His skills found fruition in the remarkable Kelmscott Chaucer, which he cites in his missive to Hart as "satisfactory." Bound in mauve wrappers with paper label to upper cover. Mild toning to spine, else near fine. Item #31191
