The Mother's Primer.

New York: Minard W. Wilson, c. 1850. Octavo. 24pp. Illustrated throughout with woodcuts and wood engravings of various sizes, and likely from a variety of sources. The final engraving—a portrait of John Wesley—is signed "Jocelyn NY." According to OCLC, this primer was issued under at least three New York imprints: Nafis & Cornish, R. Marsh, and M.W. Wilson. The present imprint appears to be the rarest of the group, with only two holdings -- one at UCLA, the other at AAS. With only a handful of recorded titles bearing his imprint, Minard Wilson's publishing house, located at 15 Ann Street in the Fulton/Seaport area of Manhattan, appears not to have been a commercial success and may have subsisted on job printing. Minor soiling to printed wrappers, some chipping and wrinking to corners, small split to lower spine, else a very good copy of a rare primer. Item #31398
