The frontispiece is a portrait of Cleopatra, hand-painted in the style of ancient Egypt, by artists in Cairo using seven colors and gold on papyrus. In addition, each of the five Acts opens with a woodcut hand-colored by Dorothy Allen, and each page of text is decorated in the margin with Egyptian hieroglyphs and symbols in a sequence of four colors and black.
