The Allies' Bible in Khaki.

Birch, C. R. (illus.)

(Glasgow: David Bryce & Son, 1914). 936pp. Published at the very beginning of World War I, this miniaturized facsimile of the Oxford nonpareil 16mo edition of the Bible is prefaced with the national anthems of the Allies, a recessional by Rudyard Kipling, and Neil Munro's "Evening Prayer of a People." Bound in military-style khaki and printed with microscopic text, this miniature bible was perfectly sized to be carried in a soldier's pocket. All edges red. Original magnifying glass present in pocket at the rear of the book. Lacking the rare printed dust wrapper, which we have only seen on two copies. Spine slightly toned, and with a faint adhesive residue just below the gilt stamped title, else a fine copy. (Garbett, p. 22; Bondy, pp. 110-111; Welsh 564). (1 3/4 by 1 1/8; 45x33mm). Item #31799
