Two Tickets to Freedom: The True Story of Ellen and William Craft, Fugitive Slaves.

Keats, Ezra Jack (illus.)

NY: Simon and Schuster, 1971. First edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author and signed by the illustrator at the front flyleaf. A young-adult retelling of two fugitive slaves in the mid-19th century. The dedicatory statements after the title page elucidate the historical threads binding the author to the Crafts' story; Friedman is a descendant of Holocaust refugees, whose flight from Nazi Europe is akin to the Crafts' flight from pre-Emancipation America. Bound in orange cloth over boards. Some rubbing to edges, else a near fine copy in a good jacket. Item #32019
