(Gill, Eric)

Pen-and-ink drawing for unrealized woodcut.

Gill, Eric (illus.)

(Ditchling: c. 1920). Pen-and-ink on paper, with traces of pencil. Image shows an angel greeting St. Peter in jail, holding a key and preparing to set him free of his chains. The remnants of a pencil gestural drawing can be seen at the illustration's left. The page's verso shows, in Gill's handwriting, what seems to be a personal note and a partial mailing address. The illustration appears to have been unrealized as a finished engraving. Fine. (Measures 3 1/8 by 4 in.; 80x103 mm). Item #32065
