London: A Paper Read at a Meeting of the Art Workers Guild.

(Hammersmith): Doves Press, 1891. Octavo. 8pp. One of 300 copies. Presented to subscribers of the Doves Press, the present text reprises Cobden-Sanderson's speech given to the Art Workers Guild, in which he expounds upon the contemporary artistic tastes of the general population, and thus nods at the social function of the aesthetic movement. His noble attitude, however, appears undercut by the addendum, printed in red at the end of his treatise, which states that during the subsequent meeting the members decided to "dissociate Art from social conditions as the Art Workers Guild had a purely 'artistic' function." A tidy keepsake, bound in full vellum showing mild soiling, else near fine. Item #32251

(Tidcombe DP9).
