Stokes's Memory-Aiding Pocket Keyboard, Piano, Organ, and Harmonium.

London: Houlston & Sons, 1884. 24mo. 36pp., + linen-backed fold-out keyboard, which unfurled measures over three feet. An inventive, personal teaching modality, inviting the enterprising student to memorize piano movements on their own. Much of the prefatory text, which bears occasional engraved illustrations, concerns Stokes himself, and his philosophies and methods of memory and mnemonics. Third edition; title page attests to publication in both England and Australia. Bound in yellow cloth over boards, blind stamped with title in gilt. General exterior soiling, else near fine. OCLC records only two holdings. Stamp to verso of title page from previous owner, Bernard Zufall, who was himself a purveyor and performer of the spectacles of memory. Item #32707
