Here Cather points out a letter she published in The Commonweal detailing her experiences researching and writing the book, which she notes "follows the actual lives and experiences of the first Bishop of New Mexico and his vicar very closely." Quarter green cloth with marbled paper over boards and glazed cloth label to spine. General overall rubbing, else near fine. Bookplate of Estelle Doheny and her husband Edward L. Doheny.
