(Drawing Kit)

Perspectograph.

Brownjohn, Earl (illus.)

Springfield, MA: Milton Bradley Company, 1940. Oblong small quarto.12 plates + instructional sheet. Each plate builds upon the last, developing the nascent artist's skills at incorporating perspectival techniques into their sketches. The subjects are, in general, architectural, though with foundational practices with basic three-dimensional shapes. The user places the lesson plate in the center section of the portfolio container, on which are graduated rulers and additional movable rulers to guide the pencil along proper lines of sight. Some plates also provide cut-outs for the user to excise and assemble. The kit's implicit goal, manifested in its attention to cityscapes, seems to be encouragement toward commercial drafting and other professions of applied design. Portfolio front sports an impressive red and black design. Minor rubbing to plates and portfolio, this with some creasing, plate no. 10 with graphite marks, else near fine. No copies recorded in OCLC. Item #33421
