Silhouetten und Verse: Der Liebe und Freundschaft Gewidmet.

Offenbach am Main: Klingspor, 1930. Oblong 32mo. 24pp., frenchfold. Illustrated with elegant silhouettes of men and women dressed in the height of fashion, each framed by a colorful border. Facing each silhouette or pair of silhouettes is a passage of German verse. This particular copy is specially bound as a gift for Hugo Steiner-Prag's 50th birthday. Bound in pink silk, with a hand-painted and gilt-stamped "50" on the upper cover. Housed in a box decorated with patterned paper. A printed sheet is laid in to the box with the dedication to Steiner-Prag from Karl Klingspor, dated December 12, 1930. Both Klingspor and Steiner-Prag moved in the same circles of German book design and production in the early nineteenth century. Klingspor, together with his brother Wilhelm, operated the type foundry Gebrüder Klingspor in Offenbach am Main. Steiner-Prag was an illustrator and designer, serving as a professor of graphics at the Staatlichen Akademie für Graphische Künste und Buchgewerbe in Leipzig from 1907 to 1933. He also designed three typefaces, including the self-named Steiner-Prag-Schrift. This pretty item, pairing the finely detailed silhouettes and the traditional Gothic type, is therefore a fitting gift for the designer. A fine copy. Item #27325
