Branczyk vs. Ruddigkeit.

Ruddigkeit, Raban, and Alexander Branczyk (illus.)

Slanted Publishers, 2014. Folio. (27)ff. One of twenty-six copies. Signed by both artists. A highly stylized, almost-mechanical alphabet, originating from designer Raban Ruddigkeit's "Elements" type. Developed in 2013 for the "We Create Berlin" exhibition, "Elements" consisted of only five characters conceived to be freely combined into letters, numbers, and images. A year later, Alexander Branczyk harnessed the type to create twenty-six different graphic variants, resulting in the Latin alphabet presented here. Each letter is printed against a two-by-two grid of four squares, within each of which is another three-by-three grid of squares and circles. All are printed in two- or three-color risograph, and embrace jagged lines, bright colors, and unconventional patterns to creatively present a new alphabet. Housed with an introductory sheet in gray paper portfolio. Fine. Item #30585
