Brugalla's treatise on bookbinding, illustrated with both in-text figural drawings and color plates of bindings, offers an educated and thorough historical and technical analysis of the craft. Brugalla demonstrates his own skill on this copy's binding, which replicates a 16th-century French binding exhibited on plate VIII. Brugalla has covered the boards in full tan morocco, with resplendent giltwork of dots, borders, rules, and scrolls to the exterior panels, the spine, the dentelles, and the turn-ins. Onlays in purple morocco emphasize various ornaments, to greatest effect the heads of a wind god at the head and foot of each panel. Silk doublures and flyleaves. Stamped in gilt at foot of front turn-in "Brugalla - 1949." Spine slightly toned, trace instances rubbing to corners, else fine. A.e.g. Item #31426
